How it Works
Rock the Stars is an innovative and fun way for organizations to build team spirit while motivating participants to strive for higher levels of performance. Requiring no prior ability, Rock the Stars is packed with challenge, creativity and fun.
Our process begins with you. For example, your objective is a fun, inclusive team building activity that builds trust while bringing people closer together. You're looking for something memorable and easy to manage. We start with a conversation to learn about your group, the objectives for the event, and logistics. Next, we write up a proposal with recommended program(s), descriptions, technical details, and cost. Once signed off we look after things from there with minimal management needed on your side. A pre-con meeting is held a week before the event to finalize details.
Rock The Stars is designed for people without any musical background. No musical experience is required to fully participate in and benefit from Rock the Stars' programs.
Introverts make up a portion of any Rock the Stars event and all our programs are designed to appeal to both introverts and extroverts alike. For example, in choosing band roles extroverts gravitate toward lead guitar of vocals while introverts may choose background vocals or drums. Everything is done as a group and at no point are people singled out or compelled to do anything they are not comfortable doing.
Rock the Stars provides all the required materials and musical equipment for our programs. When we arrive on-site, we have everything we need. Larger groups and some sites require additional audio-visual support.
Rock the Stars requires a venue suitable to corporate events with electricity, tables and chairs. Most of our programs can be done in 1 room with ‘U Rock’ needing additional breakout rooms.
For groups up to 100 we provide a sound system appropriate for speaking and live music. We can also patch into existing systems if in place. For larger groups a technical rider is provided detailing our AV requirements.
Rock the Stars can be done in any meeting facility intended for corporate events. Hotels, convention centers, special event spaces, and even outdoor venues are suitable for Rock the Stars. We do not have our own venue but can make recommendations if you need one.
Music is one of the earliest forms of human communication. Music stimulates multiple parts of the brain, kind of like exercise for the mind, and affects us emotionally. Singing or making music as a group has this amazing effect that both reduces stress and energizes us at the same time. It does this, in part, by releasing endorphins and chemicals like dopamine. This produces the same kind of high you feel after a great workout or when falling in love.
Imagine being at a concert with your favorite band, singing along at the top of your lungs with the rest of the audience. It’s exhilarating and gives you a sense, in that moment, that anything is possible. Sharing a musical experience with others makes us feel like we are part of something bigger; like we’re members of the same tribe.
A rock band is a metaphor for the workplace and simulates the creative, interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to excel within a team. In Rock the Stars participants form a band, learn to play classic rock songs, and perform them in a battle of the bands. Over the course of a few hours band members listen and react to one another in accomplishing something as a team they may not have thought possible. This is empowering and energizes teams in a substantial way.
Rock the Stars specializes in experiential team building where groups are given a task that can only be accomplished as a group working together. In our case tasks are music related. For example, in ‘U Rock’ the task is to learn and perform a rock song; in ‘You Write the Song’ it’s writing your own lyrics to a popular song; in ‘Team Lip Sync Contest’ it’s creating a performance to win a competition.
Our ‘You Write the Song’ program can be done virtually from a studio for Zoom, Teams, and other platforms that support breakout rooms. Our other programs are adaptable to hybrid events where a majority of the group are live at a meeting facility while others join remotely.
Rock the Stars is available globally and can be done almost anywhere corporate events are held. Our home base is Toronto, Canada.
Rock the Stars was formed in 2002 with our first event held in February of 2003 for a pharmaceutical client. Since then we have produced close to 600 events with over 50,000 participants in total. Our clients range from multi-national corporations to medium sized companies and associations. In 2009 we won a Star Award for Best Corporate Team Building Activity.
